This event is in the past.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club runs an annual team competition called the HKJC's Children's Challenge Cup for children age of 12 years or under at start of first competition. This is the fourth year that the competition has been running. There are a total of five competitions, the last one being the finals at Beas river Equestrian Centre.
The dates are as follows:
- 23 Sep 2016 – Lei Yue Mun Public Riding School
- 28 Oct 2016 – LoWu Saddle Club
- 4 Nov 2016 – Clear Water Bay Equestrian Center
- 9 Dec 2016 – Tuen Mun Public Riding School
- 13 Jan 2017 – Beas River Equestrian Center (Final)
The competition will be equitation jumping (judged on style not speed!) and there will three rounds: 20cm, 30cm and 50cm, each team will have one member jumping each height.
Each of the participating clubs will be putting forward teams of three riders for each of the 5 competitions. The competitions will take place on Friday nights at 6.30pm and there will be one per month. Five riding schools will be hosting the competitions and the finals will be at Beas River.
The idea is for more children to gain confidence and valuable competition experience competing on borrowed ponies away from their regular riding venue.
The HKPC squad will consist of a maximum of six riders, the team for each competition will be chosen from those 6 riders. The idea being that each member of the squad gets to compete at least 2 twice leading up to the final and then the team for the finals will be chosen from the six riders.
